Use it while learning a region when repeated small hits are the main source of lost Life.

Limit

Large bursts can still cause a Death Defiance before the next chamber exit, and the reserve does not refill.

If it is absent

Use Luckier Tooth when a single fatal mistake is more likely than steady chip damage.

When to replace it

At the next keepsake cabinet, replace it after its Armor, healing, or Magick reserve is empty.
